Ansul Certified Cartridge Refilling

Many people may not realize that Ansul Fire Suppression systems use a stored pressure cartridge to move the agent from its tank to the nozzles, and then out onto the fire. This is a system that Ansul has used very successfully for decades. As you can imagine this very integral part of the system needs to function as designed when needed.

Because of the vital role the cartridge plays in the system Ansul has always held the refilling of the cartridges very close to their chests allowing very few distributors to have access to the certification. The liabilities are just too high for them to comfortably let every distributor have this service available. The issue is that if the cartridge fails, the system fails, and whatever it happens to be protecting burns. As you can imagine this is a concern, and is why only the most trusted distributors get this certification.

I had a feeling of both surprise, and apprehension when Stuart Crabbe of Ansul Canada offered this opportunity to us. We have long been a strong supporter of Ansul as you know from the many posts I done on their products and this was the missing piece we needed to have a complete product line. After discussing the liabilities and training involved I felt confident that this was a good fit for us. Also knowing the pride my people take in their workmanship gave me the comfort level needed to take this on.

Stuart arrived early in the morning, and by the end of the day we had three technicians trained, and certified to perform the cartridge refilling to the Ansul standards. We look forward to continuing to offer the best products and services to our customers, and take pride in knowing that our suppliers also have a high level of confidence in our abilities.

Chamber U

I had the pleasure of joining the Chamber U for their lunch time presentation today. Chamber U is a learning centre designed by the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce for its members. It allows business people the opportunity to learn skills that might otherwise not be available without a sales pitch. It also gives the Winnipeg Chamber members an opportunity to highlight their business and offer solutions to the students.

This week the presentation was “Demystifying Email and Web Site Prospects” with guest instructor Juliette Greenberg of Web Wizards Inc. Her presentation has given me some better insights for delivering timely information about the fire protection industry to our customers, and the people who follow us wanting to know what’s going on in our industry.

The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce has been a great supporter of our business, and I look forward to continuing to reciprocate that support.

Cerberus Pro Launches

Last week I attended the Siemens Cerberus Pro Fire Alarm System launch. It’s always great to see new product as it enters the market, but it can also be concerning because of the glitches that seem to come with new equipment. That won’t be an issue with the Cerberus Pro. It’s been active in the United States for over a year and the poor Americans got to work out the bugs!

This new panel is chocked full of great new features. I’ll list a few;

  • A 250, and a 500 point panels, stand alone or networkable up to 16 panels.
  • Fire Print Smoke Detectors providing more than 20 selectable, application-specific detection profiles.
  • Carbon Monoxide detection.
  • Fibre optic compatibility.
  • Auto-configuration for instant fire detection capability.
  • Networkable panels have integrated degrade mode to communicate alarms over the SAFEDLINK.
  • Remote evaluation and diagnostics for increased service efficiency.
  • Clear text display supports intuitive, stress-free operation in case of an event.
  • Can be integrated into the Siemens management system.

As I said these are only a few of the great features these panels offer. I also know there will be a number of products coming out over the next year to continue to enhance the protection already available. I predict that many people will get to see these panels in action because electrical contactors will be stampeding to install them.
